This is a clip from "Shall We Dance", where Susan Sarandon's character talks about why people get married.
"We need a witness to our lives. There's a billion people on the planet ... I mean, what does any one life really mean? But in a marriage, you're promising to care about everything. The good things, the bad things, the terrible things, the mundane things ... all of it, all of the time, every day. You're saying 'Your life will not go unnoticed because I will notice it. Your life will not go un-witnessed because I will be your witness'."The lines in this scene really resonated with me, and in fact my gmail tells me I emailed this very passage to Shep way back in January 2006. Gee, I guess I was prepping my would-be-husband with blog material even back then! ;)
Shep, sorry to break it to you but I think this means you're going to have to witness my bad taste in movies for the foreseeable future! And in return, it will be my honor to happily bear witness to all the good, bad, terrible, wonderful, difficult, easy, mundane & exciting things in your life. :)
