According to Wikipedia:A New Year's resolution is a commitment that an individual makes to a project or the reforming of a habit, often a lifestyle change that is generally interpreted as advantageous. The name comes from the fact that these commitments normally go into effect on New Year's Day and remain until fulfilled or abandoned. More socio-centric examples include resolutions to donate to the poor more often, to become more assertive, or to become more economically or environmentally responsible.Last year, Shep and I began a tradition of writing out New Year's resolutions together. This year, we reviewed and graded one another's list of 2008 resolutions (Shep scored a B, C-, F-, A+, B, A, B; while I received a B-, B, A, B+, A+, F, F, A-, A+++, A+) and then wrote out new lists for 2009. You'll notice that I had 3 more resolutions than Shep did for 2008, so I think I'm just going to conveniently disregard my 3 lowest grades. ;)
Many of the most popular resolutions include: weight loss, getting a new job, charity endeavors, cessation of smoking, increased nutrition, etc.
This year our resolutions combine some of last year's failures mixed with new goals. There are a few resolutions we both committed to, including: saving more money (fat chance as 5/23/09 keeps approaching!), taking dance lessons (in progress!), engaging in more volunteer work (check and check!), exercising more (bleh) and being less messy (wish us both luck). Once again, I somehow wound up with 3 more resolutions than Shep so in addition to claiming leniency in advance on next year's grades, I also added 3 items to his list!
Looking over our lists, it’s funny to see how many resolutions are wedding-related, but also affect everyday life for us not only as individuals but also as a couple. I have never been organized about resolutions in the past but now that we have this little tradition going I hope we can continue it throughout our marriage together.
Anyone out there have any 2009 resolutions you care to share with us??? :)
