“Don’t let the perfect be the enemy of the good.” - Voltaire
This is wise advice that I unfortunately don't tend to follow in life, especially in wedding planning. Since we are now fast-approaching W-Day I must remember to constantly remind myself of this insightful quote though. We face millions of options and choices throughout our lives. Some people (*ahem, Shep!*) are naturally better at making choices in life than others. I, unfortunately, am DEFINITELY in the latter category.
To say I'm often frozen by the fear of wrong decisions would be hitting the nail on the head. The kicker is that not only do I have trouble making actual choices, but I have an even harder time sticking to decisions once they're made! Uy yuy yuy! My ridiculous i-have-a-dress-no-wait-i-chose-the-wrong-dress-or-wait-did-i saga is a perfect example of this, only to be matched by what is unfortunately turning into the i-finally-chose-a-bridesmaid-dress-oh-wait-no-i-didn't-i-chose-another-and-another-and-am-going-to-drive-both-myself-and-my-trusty-MOH-insane-over-this situation. ;)What I do realize in theory -- and need to work on putting into practice -- is that if we spend too much of our time going around in circles, we expend energy that can be better and more constructively utilized elsewhere. This is especially critical with deadline-driven wedding planning, but also applies to good old everyday life. Now I don't know about you but I currently have a ton of items on my to-list, all of which need my time, attention, and ultimately my decision. Perpetually re-visiting check-marks and leaving items eternally un-checked is not only counterproductive but is inducing too many unwanted gray hairs on my bridal head! And while I can type this great wisdom out and repeat it in my head, I still have trouble acting on it. But the clock is ticking, and May 23 is coming faster than I can utter "indecisive mess", so from this moment onward I, Nicole, do solemnly swear to make a conscious effort to assess every situation as best as I can in the time allotted and then move forward from there. Always forward, never backward, right Shep?! I'm still having a little trouble with the concept but I'm sure I'll get it eventually... ;)
