I'm not an inherently lucky person. Shep can (and often does!) walk into a casino and without much more than a flick of the wrist hit the jackpot. Since I've known him, he's struck it lucky in Biloxi, the Caribbean, New Orleans, and even Vegas! In fact, The Venetian sends us multiple offers per week for comp hotel nights and dinners in an attempt to lure Shep back to reclaim his winnings. And now that I think about it, I vaguely remember Shep telling me about one visit of his to Biloxi where he won so many times on number 28 in Roulette that they checked the table to make sure everything was copacetic. That Shep, he's a lucky gambler! But not me.... oh no, not me! Not only do I lack luck of my own, but I apparently have a talent for interfering with Shep's luck too. During our first trip together to Vegas, Shep won on the slots twice.... once during my 3-minute Starbucks break and a second time during the 10 minutes I was perusing the Celine Dion gift shop. BUT for the remainder of the trip if I was anywhere in the vicinity of Shep's gambling, he didn't win a dime. Coincidence? I think not. Needless to say I've come to terms with the fact that I'm a bad luck charm.
Well, ladies and gents - I'm happy to report that I had a temporary lapse in unluckiness! See this purple bracelet? It's more than that... it was my ticket to luck!

We walked past
Bed Bath & Beyond tonight after our dance lesson, and noticed an event taking place. Being the nosy couple we are, we popped in to check it out... and were delighted to discover a bridal registry party complete with a guest appearance from
Monique Lhuillier. The event was already underway, but they kindly sent us in with a purple bracelet and a pack of tickets marked with the number 98A. Inside, there were a few dozen tables set up displaying different registry products and sales reps to talk you into choosing them. Our goal was to drop a ticket in each of the display stations and receive a stamp from each rep, proving we visited that table. At the end of the night, the bags of tickets were used for prize drawings related to the table product. Quite a marketing tactic but totally worth it for free stuff! Since we arrived late, we didn't get to visit every table, but did manage to drop a ticket into 9-10 bags. We stood and anxiously waited with the other couples to hear our number called during the drawings, and waited and waited. Lots of prizes were given away, including an all-expenses-paid 7-day honeymoon to a couple that was so thrilled to win that I almost cried for them! Before long the last number was called (none of them ours), so we headed over to the coat check line. Before we could get our coats we heard the woman start to call more numbers - apparently some of the winners had left before the drawing and had therefore forfeited their prizes! Always on the prowl for free stuff we hopped off the coat line and back over to the drawing area and WON!!!!! They called our lucky number 98A! I darted over to the claim area and was handed...

... A
KEURIG SINGLE SERVICE COFFEE MAKER!!! Not that I ever drink coffee, and Shep only drinks it occasionally... BUT HOW EXCITING TO WIN SUCH A BIG PRIZE!!!! Some of the other winners walked away with small glass dishes and picture frames, so I DEFINITELY think we got one of the best prizes! Aside from the free honeymoon of course but I'm not complaining! ;) Not only did we win this fabulous prize but we also got a whole bag full of free goodies on the way out!

I guess this was one instance where Shep's good luck persevered, despite my presence. I'm just lucky to be in love with such a lucky man. ;) Thank you Bed Bath & Beyond! And thank you Calphalon, Mikasa, Modern Bride, Monique Lhuillier, myplace, Royal Velvet, and all the other event sponsors!!!
