Dress Shopping: Take 2!!

(For those of you who missed the singing adventure from Dress Shopping Day 1, feel free to check it out before reading on!)

The date was Friday, August 8th - 8/8/08 to be exact. The same date believed by many in the Chinese culture to represent good fortune or luck, and the date of the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics Opening Ceremony. While visions of gold medals danced around in the head of Michael Phelps; I of course hoped the fortuitous 8s would bring me luck in the wedding dress category, a selfish yet productive pipe dream. :)

Once again Mom and I skipped work (hey, it's for a good reason!) and this time Aunt Barbara was able to join us, too! With so many options, it was hard to choose a starting point, but we planned a line-up in midtown that began with the Macy's Bridal Salon, then hit the Bridal Building, and finished at RK Bridal.
I managed to get to Penn Station on time to pick up my mom (no small feat when you are me and perpetually late for everything!), and we arrived to Macy's just before our 11am meeting time. Everything was going according to plan and I was excited about the day ahead of us. Aunt Barbara hugged us hello and then immediately proclaimed that she had already found a dress for me! I quickly filled out the required paperwork, and followed Aunt Barbara to look at what I imagined would be my dream dress. And what a sight it was!! Jen (my Matron of Honor, aka "MOH") pulled off a huge surprise with the help of my darling fiance, mom and aunt. She secretly came down from CT to join us for the day! And what a great surprise it was! So great, in fact, that I started sobbing like a baby in the middle of the Demetrios salon. Can we say overemotional bride-to-be??? So the four of us began our mission (with 8 hands total I thought luck was on our side for sure!) and I tried on a number of dresses in Macy's, but nothing screamed "got to buy me now!", so we moved on. I was actually shocked that Macy's, the largest department store in the world and my saving grace on many occasions, did not have a larger selection of bridal gowns. Oh well. On to the next stop!

We checked out the Bridal Building pretty quickly, as there were only 4 bridal shops there and 2 of them did not let us in without an appointment, even though it was mid-day on a weekday. I did manage to try on one very nice dress, except it took a little imagination because it was a size 24 which obviously was a tad large on me.

I thought my shopping assistants deserved a nice break after all their hard work, so we hopped a cab to GoogleNYC for some yummy lunch.

After filling up on Google goodness, we headed back to the garment district to RK Bridal where we spent over 3 hours searching through, waiting for assistance with, and then trying on, a ton of dresses. By 6pm we had two possible contenders, and very sore arm muscles. Those stinkers are heavy!
Unfortunately, we didn't find "the dress", but we had a lot of fun looking for it! And I think we're a little closer to the finish line.
