This weekend, instead of pouring over save the date magnet choices, or figuring out what our "wedding color schemes" are (rejected: chartreuse and taupe), I took Nicole rollerblading. Now, Nicole has been rollerblading before. Once. About 3 years ago. It was actually the first "outdoorsy" date we had together, over at Liberty State Park in Jersey City. And Nicole has since confided to me that she almost dumped me over it.
You see, dear reader friends, Nicole is not the "outdoorsy" type. She enjoys rollerblading about as much as a cat enjoys scuba diving. No, that's not right. The cat probably would enjoy being underwater a lot more than Nicole would skating along under the August sun. Even though she is not that bad at it, she just does not like it. Instead, she would watch my dumb self trip and fall so many times that she kept yelling, "JESUS, you're going to kill yourself!" and "JESUS, watch out!" With all the yelling one would think that the Son of God had returned on rollerblades himself.
A short note on each picture:
1. Smooching at the old Train Depot.
2. Leading Nicole in our Rollerblading Quest To Not Fall Down
3. We are almost there (I fell shortly after this picture was taken).
4. The 'blades (note how new and unused Nicole's look).
5. Nicole stops for a treat.
6. Nicole "resting" on the bench.
7 and 8. Nicole deciding to walk with her roller blades on the grass rather than actually skate along a paved road.
9. The only time Nicole smiled the whole day.
Keen-eyed observers will note that there are no pictures of the bride-to-be actually rollerblading. This is not an oversight.
Would this be a bad time to mention my idea of a rollerblading wedding reception?
