Getting the Marriage License
One of the less fun things we thought we had to do was get our marriage license. Since we are getting married in Wading River, we needed a license from New York State. That meant going to the City Clerk's office in Manhattan (one of Shep's old stomping grounds as a paralegal, in fact). So we took a visit to Worth Street one sunny Friday morning (May 15 to be precise!) to get it. There's no blood test required in New York, just some paperwork and, of course...waiting. We actually did not wait too long and the clerk was very pleasant (shocking for New York, we know). There were many other couples there who in addition to getting their marriage license, were having their ceremony performed in the Clerk's office. The City actually has a nice facility for this. I wrote about it previously. We were done in about an hour, with our license in hand! Then we just had to wait for Deacon Fred to sign it on May 23. Not all that painful!
